According to Jain religion , Lord Vardhaman Mahavir was the last teaching god (tirthankara) of jainism. Lord Vardhaman Mahavir was born in 599 BC, Kshatriyakund is the birth place of Lord Mahavir, he belongs to very royal family . King Siddhartha was his father and his mother's name was Queen Trishala. His parents were very religious people. Vardhaman Mahavir is very meaningful name , Vardhaman means continuously increasing and Mahavir means very brave. If we talk about his life then, he lived very simple life and after the death of his parents he became monk that time he was only 30years old. Most of his time he used to spent in meditation. About twelve and half years ,he lived such struggling life. In the age of fourty two he became Jina , 24th trithankar of the present time cycle. I think now you got your answer. How Mahavir Jayanti is Celebrated?

Rajasthan and Gujrat are most common places where Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated. At many places, the statue of Lord Mahavir is caried out in a procession called yath yatra on a chariot. On the way religious songs or bhajans are recited. On this day most the jainism loves to visit temples of Lord Mahavir where they honor Lord Mahavir by flowers, fruits, and abhisheck with pure milk also they offer prayer to Lord Mahavir. Many devotees engage in charitable acts, on this day jain people use to donate food , fruits and help in feed poor people. At many places the early life , brave moments of Lord Mahavir is also shared. Ancient Jain temples across India typically see an extremely high volume of practitioners come to pay their respects and join in the celebrations. Many devotees observe a long day fast on this day, sweet dishes are prepared on this day like mostly kheer.
